New Jardiniere Resembles Royal Doulton

There is a new 9-inch jardiniere in the market that resembles a Victorian-era original by Royal Doulton. The new piece has an off-white body with cobalt blue and gold trim. It is decorated with hand brushed poppies in an Art Nouveau style. The piece is about 6½ inches tall.

It is permanently marked in blue on the base, "Victoria Ironstone." This mark is one of over a dozen confusing new marks which include the word "Ironstone" and appear on current reproductions. Bits and pieces of art work and various words from original marks have been combined to create these confusing marks.

All these marks are fantasies. That is, no old counterparts to these marks ever existed. The marks are modern creations developed especially for the reproduction trade.
