New Mimbreno ChinaBy Mark Chervenka
New Mimbreno China
New Mimbreno China is a railroad dining car pattern first used by the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe from 1936-1970. The pattern was based on ancient Indian art found in the Mimbres Valley, thus the name. The new Mimbreno patterns are exact copies of originals. Look at the backstamp to establish age. All originals are marked "Made Expressly for Santa Fe Dining Car Service," while new pieces are marked "Replica from Santa Fe Dining Car Service." New pieces are further marked, "Reproduced under license from ATSF." Although the words are different, the arrangement of the words is very similar to the original and you need to look closely to catch the differences.
